Although solar energy is free and available all year long, the capacity of your system to produce the energy you need on a daily basis will determine how much you’ll still owe the power company. You can also reduce the amount of grid-sourced electricity you require by adjusting your habits and running appliances that consume a lot of electricity when your home solar system is producing the maximum amount of converted electricity.
Moreover, if you produce more electricity than you need, it gets exported onto the energy grid as you are selling the excess back to your energy company. This will be counted in your net meter, and you’ll be paid a feed-in tariff for every kilowatt-hour (kWh) of electricity you export into the grid, further lowering your electricity bill.
