Damien lives on acreage in Strathdickie with his wife and two teenagers, and this is definitely not a low-energy household. They both work from home, run water pumps for the horses, have a pool, multiple air-conditioners, computers, a coffee machine, appliances, and Damien’s pride and joy: his reef aquariums.

And he’s not exaggerating! The household uses around 80kWh of electricity per day - a massive amount compared with an average home. The goal was never to stop using power, it was to build a system that could keep up with the way his family actually lives.
But Damien’s new place came with one very important little complication...Well, technically a few hundred little complications swimming around in tanks. Those tanks rely on pumps and filtration running continuously. Just 10 hours without power and its all over, which meant reliable power wasn’t just about convenience, It was a necessity to protect his pride and joy.

Damien and his wife work from home, so losing power means losing their ability to work. The property also relies on pumps to move water for the horses. And then there are the aquariums.
