The Supercharged Solar For Renters Program
Helping Renters and Property Owners Access Affordable Solar
The Supercharged Solar for Renters program is a Queensland Government initiative designed to make solar power more accessible for rental properties.
It helps renters benefit from lower electricity bills while supporting landlords to improve the energy performance and long-term value of their investment properties.
This program recognises a long-standing challenge: renters typically pay the power bills, while landlords pay for property upgrades. The Supercharged Solar for Renters helps bridge that gap.
Solar for Renters Rebate Amount
System Size (kW) | Maximum Rebate |
3.0–3.99 kW | $2,500 |
4.0–4.99 kW | $3,000 |
5.0 kW or more | $3,500 |
The Goal of the Supercharged Solar for Renters Program
Supercharged Solar for Renters aims to provide financial support and incentives to help get solar systems on eligible rental properties across Queensland.
The program aims to:
- Reduce electricity costs for renters
- Encourage landlords to invest in clean energy upgrades
- Improve housing energy efficiency
- Support Queensland’s transition to renewable energy
Solar systems installed under the program must meet eligibility and quality requirements set by the Queensland Government.
Installed System Size | Maximum Rebate |
3.0–3.99 kW | $2,500 |
4.0–4.99 kW | $3,000 |
5.0 kW or more | $3,500 |
The Available Rebate Amount
The available rebate or discount for the Supercharged Solar for Renters Program depends on the size of the solar system installed (kw).
The minimum size system to be installed is 3kW and the maximum amount of kW to qualify for the solar rebate is 5kW.
You can choose to install a larger solar system but only the first 5kW will qualify for the Renters Rebate. The remaining kW will still be elgible for the normal Solar STC rebate and Battery Rebate if you choose to install one.
Benefits for Landlords
Additional Rebate
Combine this Rental Rebate with the usual Solar Rebates to receive up to 70% off the cost of installing a solar system.
Increase Property Value
Solar-equipped properties command higher sale prices and make your property more attracive to buyers in the future.
Tenant Retention
Attract and keep tenants in your property with a lower cost of living, making your property a more desirable and cost effective option.
Benefits for Renters
Lower Electricity Bills
Estimated by the Government to save renters an average of $700 a year on energy costs and protect them from energy price hikes.
Benefits Of Solar With No Costs
Renters pay nothing towards the cost of the solar system, installation or maintenance, while still receiving the benefits of the system and savings.

Solar for Renters Frequently Asked Questions
Answers To Common Renters Solar Program Questions
With the new Rebate comes lots of questions and we’ve got the answers!
Can renters apply directly?
Renters generally cannot apply on their own. Participation requires the cooperation of the property owner, as the solar system is installed on the landlord’s asset.
Can I still get the regular solar rebate discount?
Yes! The Solar Rebate is an additional rebate which when combined with the regular STC rebate scheme can reduce the total discount of installing a solar system by up to 70%.
If I have multiple investment properties, can I get the discount multiple times?
You can claim the Rental Rebate for up to three rental properties as long as they all meet the eligibility criteria.
Can the rebate be used to add additional solar panels to an existing system?
Unfortunately the rebate is only for properties with no existing solar system at this stage.
Are there size restrictions on the solar system that can access the rebate?
There is a minimum kW size of 3W and a maximum of 6kW are eligible. You can still install a larger solar system, but only the first 6kW will be able to be considered for the rebate.
