Matty and his family have recently built a new home in Cannonvale and after living in a unit for several years, were unsure of exactly what their power usage would be. They decided that if they were going to go solar, they may as well do it properly from the get-go, and they chose to install a 13.2kW solar panel system.

SolarEdge was their solar panel system of choice for a number of reasons, predominantly as it will allow them to go even bigger, if necessary (up to 18kW when a battery is installed), if they decide to add a pool or electric vehicle to the household down the track. As a stay-at-home Dad, Matty was also very impressed with the SolarEdge monitoring app and having the ability to see and alter their energy consumption to achieve maximum savings for their family.

Only a few months after the solar panel system was installed, they decided to add on a battery, making them virtually self-sufficient and also ensuring they still have power when the next cyclone hits.

Their power bills have gone from $650 per quarter down to $0, with their last charges just $3.99 for the month!

“It’s not really even about the payback or return, although it’s pretty huge compared to any other investments we’ve made. It’s just about reducing stress and providing security for my family” – Matty Grice, Cannonvale

Matty couldn’t be happier with his decision to go big from the start and would recommend anyone building a home to do likewise. Matty says “Power bills were one of the biggest stresses I faced, and I am very glad to be rid of them!”
