“Solar is a great way to alleviate the stress of high electricity costs.”

“We use a lot of power during the day which is the peak time to get the returns on solar. Dave and the team at Green Energy Technologies put together a fantastic deal based on my business needs with a $0 dollar upfront finance option. The system has reduced our bill to close to zero dollars which means the system will pay itself off in 3 short years. A great investment! Another advantage for me is the fact that I can claim the expense as a tax write off for the business.”

Since we are a local company that’s been in business for over a decade and is very well-established, you can count on us to be there for you long-term. All you need to do is give us a call on 07 4940 2900 and we will take care of all your solar power system needs — from the initial installation survey to the ongoing system maintenance.

How many solar panels does it take to power a house?

If you’re planning on buying solar panels in Australia, keep in mind that the average Australian household typically requires a 5kW to 6.6kW solar system. A system of this size usually consists of 15 to 20 panels. By making this choice, your home solar panels can produce up to 120 kWh of electricity daily and you can even sell the excess back to the energy companies.

When it comes to small to moderately sized businesses, the number of solar panels required can be up to 100 panels. However, determining the number of panels you need depends on the amount of electricity you use on a regular basis, your budget and the space available. Our local solar installers at Green Energy Technologies will be able to give you a more accurate number once they have spoken to you directly.

How much does a solar power system cost?

To give you a rough idea of how much it costs to go solar in Australia, a conventional 6kW solar PV system may be priced between $4,000 and $6,000, whilst a 10kW system could cost you around $7,500 to $10,500.

The total cost of your solar power system depends not only on its size and capacity but also on other factors. These include its’ model and brand, the price of the micro-inverter or optimiser system you choose and the difficulty of the installation process.

What are the requirements to install solar panels?

All CEC-accredited solar installers are required to use products that meet Australian Standards. This is why we only use:

  • AS 4509 stand-alone power systems
  • AS 4086 secondary batteries for SPS
  • AS/NZS 3000 electrical wiring rules
  • AS 1768 lightning protection
  • AS/NZS 1170.2 wind loads
  • AS/NZS 5033 installation of photovoltaic (PV) arrays

As is required of any solar company in Queensland, we follow all the guidelines set by the CEC to ensure the safety of our systems. Moreover, we only use approved products, such as solar PV modules and grid-connect inverters, of higher-than-standard quality to prolong the life of your solar power system.

Do I need council approval to install solar panels in QLD?

If you live in Mackay, Whitsunday, Townsville and the surrounding areas, the only regulations you need to follow when installing solar panels in QLD are the building codes and standards that already apply to your property. A solar system installed on a roof that’s not facing the street doesn’t usually require permission from the council, while a street-facing roof may need it. Other situations where you might need to have council approval are if the building is heritage listed or if it is in a heritage-listed area.

For those living in a strata-managed building, you’ll have to check with your strata body if you need the approval of the owners’ association for the solar panel installation. Similarly, if you are a long-term renter, you will still need the owner’s written consent.

If you still have a question before buying solar panels in Australia and our FAQs page or blogs haven’t covered it, get in touch with us online or call us on 07 4940 2900 today. Our friendly team of experts and local solar installers will be happy to help you!
